There are many jobs that require you to wear several different hats. This is not uncommon in the corporate world as businesses must adapt to the needs of their company and clients. Our next guest shares her responsibilities as a Project Manager.
Please introduce yourself to our readers…
My name is Mary Castleton. I am a mother of two amazing kids, I work full-time and I am an amateur triathlete. I love what I do and do what I love.
Can you tell us what company you work for?
I work for Davinci Virtual office Solutions. www.davincivirtual.com and www.davincimeetingrooms.com. Davinci Virtual Office Solutions is the leading provider of live answering services, business addresses and meeting spaces. Davinci exists to support the mobile entrepreneur by helping them use minimum overhead to reach maximum potential with services and resources critical to achieving business objectives.
What is your title there?
Project Manager
What are the exact responsibilities of your job?
I am a full-time project manager. I mainly work on web development projects but also manage the social media marketing. I am the go-to for anything web related, updates, web chat support etc. I also work with my manager on desktop support for the employees at Davinci.
What is it about your job that makes you love it?
I love that I feel needed and have ownership of the projects I am given. The owners of the company work with HR to provide a fun work environment so you can feel at home.
What particular skills or talents are most essential to completing your tasks?
I have to do a lot of communicating with different people, vendors, staff etc. so communication skills are a must. I am also knowledgeable in Photoshop, Marketing, HTML, CSS, and WordPress.
What level of education would you say is required to perform your role?
I have a bachelors in Marketing, but it probably isn’t required for my role. Someone could gain experience working in marketing, web development etc. to do my job. I do feel that my education and work experience provides a more rounded perspective to the position.
Do you find that you bring your work home with you? (And is that a good or bad thing?)
With web development there are times that I have to test the site after I am home or answer questions depending on what time of day the contracted developer or designer is working. If I have a lot of work that needs completed in a particular week I will sometimes take it home with me so I can see my family while I continue to work, but it isn’t often. For the most part my work can be completed during work hours.
How does this job compare to other jobs you’ve held in the past?
I have worked for a lot of different companies. Most of the jobs I have had as a professional were related to project management in some way. They have all benefited me in becoming the PM that I am today. This company is good at realizing the fluidity of projects and how they are constantly changing. This is a huge relief and benefit as project timelines are changed and project tasks are updated. This company has been one of two that I have worked for where I wasn’t looking forward to my next job or on a constant search for the next project. It has been nice to feel like I want to stay.
What is your favorite food?
That is a hard one to answer. I love to eat. A lot of the time my favorite food is a good deli sandwich on a fantastic crusty roll with gourmet meats and cheeses.
