Harris Schanhaut, CME I have been managing conferences, meetings and events for many years in diverse industries including automotive, medical, travel, technology, financial, pharmaceutical, wellness and manufacturing. I have been published numerous times in trade publications and been a speaker at industry events since 2003. I am also a co-chair on Meeting Professionals International’s Greater New York Chapter within the Strategic Partnership Committee which was named Committee of the Year, on the Board of Directors of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association until July 2009 where I received the President’s Award for service.

Enterprise Event Planning
What are the exact responsibilities of your job?
Evaluate, consult, produce and execute USAA Events and conferences. I ensure proper protocols are carried out at events to include Board Members, the CEO and Executive Council, visiting dignitaries, political figures and other individuals that may draw media attention. I plan details pertaining to site selection, keynote speakers, entertainment, contract specifics, technology capabilities, transportation logistics and catering.
What is it about your job that makes you love it?
It is dynamic and creative, precise yet fluid. I work with a large variety of people from many walks of life who are recognized as leaders in their field. I work long hours, am set to adapt to the many on-the-fly changes and have lots of fun doing it.
What particular skills or talents are most essential to completing your tasks?
Ability to plan, cross functional team leadership, listening to your key stakeholders to learn what their desired outcomes are, as well as being both creative and analytical with the controls and discipline of a Project Manager
What level of education would you say is required to perform your role?
Bachelor’s Degree with event related certification
How does this job compare to other jobs you’ve held in the past?
I have been managing corporate events for almost my entire career. Before then, I worked a few odd jobs. Now I don’t work at all. I have fun!

Shellfish.
