Every one of the currently 5 billion jobs in the world is made up of certain roles and responsibilities that, combined with the personalities of the people filling them, make them entirely unique.
We wanted to find out more about these roles and the individuals, so we are kicking off an article series to explore the different job opportunities available around the globe, and the people who have found their calling and can truly say “I Love My Job.”
Please introduce yourself to our readers…
My name is Alexa Miller. I am a recent graduate of Temple University’s School of Media and Communication with a Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communication with a focus in Public Relations. After receiving multiple job offers, I was faced with a tough decision. After much consideration, I can confidently say I made the best choice!
Can you tell us what company you work for?
Flackable – a national, Millennial-owned public relations agency supporting the communications needs of registered investment advisors (RIAs) and other forward-thinking financial services firms.
What is your title there?
Public Relations Account Coordinator
What are the exact responsibilities of your job?
Media Relations, Digital Strategy, Public Relations Writing
What is it about your job that makes you love it?
Being that Flackable is a national agency with clients all over the US, I work in a virtual workplace. I love the flexibility and productivity working from home allows me. I find that I am much happier not dealing with the stress of commuting to an office. I love the aspect of being given a job to do and left alone to do it. I have the freedom to do my job without being micro-managed or questioned on decisions I make. I love the flexibility I have to balance my work life and home life.
Additionally, I love having a millennial boss! He has an innovative approach and understands the traditional way of conducting business must be reevaluated. He values me as an employee and knows what my fresh and savvy-mind has much to offer.
What particular skills or talents are most essential to completing your tasks?
A strong communicator both written and orally is most essential to succeeding in any public relations agency. In addition, a good listener and a disciplined employee is important for working virtually.
What level of education would you say is required to perform your role?
A Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Do you find that you bring your work home with you? (And is that a good or bad thing?)
No, because I always work from home! Public Relations is a 24/7 job, but working in a virtual workplace gives me the flexibility I need that a traditional agency could not provide me with.
How does this job compare to other jobs you’ve held in the past?
My work in past agencies was crucial before beginning virtually at Flackable. Those experiences were great learning opportunities but my position at this agency is a million times better!
What is your favorite food?
Mac n’ Cheese!
